The State Youth and Sports Service of Ukraine handed over the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) all materials in regard to misuse of budget funds by Ex-management of the Ukrainian National Athletics Team for the purpose of further investigation. According to the UNIAN, at the press conference Head of the State Youth and Sports Service Ravil Safiullin said that coaches had taken sick leave. He reminded that financial abuse concerning team practice sessions had been revealed as a result of the investigations which were conducted by the special commission of the State Youth and Sports Service.
Particularly the National Team Management reported that they had conducted on time 12 of such team practice sessions in Kislovodsk (Russia) since the last year’s March. However, Ravil Safiullin noted that the investigations had shown that neither of them was conducted within the training camp and conditions described in the report. As a consequence, the Head of the State Youth and Sports Service stated that the use of 1.315 million UAH wasn’t confirmed documentarily. Ravil Safiullin reminded that as a result of the work of the commission and revealed abuse the state coach of the Ukrainian National Team Valeriy Alexandrov and the chief coach of the Ukrainian National Team Alexander Apaychev had been fired from their positions.
According to Ravil Safiullin, the senior coach of the Ukrainian National Team Konstantin Stepantsov is on sick leave. That’s why for the present it is impossible to make a decision on his further fate. Also people continue to check some facts in reference to work of crew chief Ruslan Russa. But Ravil Safiullin said that probably there would be the same result. The Head of the State Youth and Sports Service informed that the materials with the results of the commission’s work had been handed over for further investigation to competent authorities. Particularly they were handed to the First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine – to the Head of the Chief Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime of the Central Management of the SBU Alexander Yakimenko. Ravil Safiullin admitted: “If there hadn’t been the collective complaint from the athletes, probably this abuse would continue.” He also added that he was responsible for this too. But he didn’t clear what he meant. According to the UNIAN, Commission on verifying the facts of violations, described in claims of the athletes which they presented to The State Youth and Sports Service of Ukraine this year in August, found out mismatch reports and evidence. Particularly, for example, according to the documents team practice session was conducted supposedly in Kislovodsk (Russia). But at the same time the training camp mentioned in reports had been already closed down.
There isn’t any documental confirmation for the amount of 21000 $US which was spent for each one team practice session. According to the documents, there were ten such sessions during period April, 2011 – July, 2012. Additionally the Ukrainian Athletics Federation Management which as well is the National Team Management doesn’t accept accusations of machinations. The Ukrainian Athletics Federation declared that it had never got budget funds for conducting of sports events and moreover for the preparation of the National Team. That’s why it can’t be responsible for its use.
